10 Essential Oils You Need To Know About

For example, mint leaves, fresh ginger and lemon slices are popular in both hot and cold drinks. Eucalyptus has become trendy across Instagram and Pinterest as a hanging feature in the shower, and so on. 

Feeling “energised” requires more than just exercise, a good night’s sleep and a healthy diet. Your mind needs to be engaged just as much as your body does. Aromatherapy is a very good place to begin because it enhances your mood, focus and motivation.

•LIME

Botanical name: Citrus arantifolia

This crisp, almost tropical scent is widely loved for it fresh aroma. The oil is extracted through cold press of the peel, ensuring every juicy drop is collected. 

Lime works very well in uplifting your mood and cleansing your mind, thanks to its' renewing properties. 

•GINGER

Botanical name: Zingiber officinale

Steam distilled from the root, this rich and warm scent can really grasp your attention, enhancing concentration. 

Ginger is known to have anti- inflammatory benefits as well as proving to relieve nausea. The benefits don’t end there: soothes aches, boosts digestion and helps with lethargy. Ginger’s healing properties go way back to Ancient medicine uses where it was a remedy for easing stomach discomforts and effective in stimulating the mind/one’s memory.

•MAY CHANG

Botanical name: Litsea cubeba

This essential oil is steam distilled from the small berried fruit, which offers a sweet and lemony scent. It is often referred to as the “feel good oil”.

May Chang helps to ease anxious feelings due to its' revitalising aroma, leaving you refreshed and relaxed. 

•LEMONGRASS

Botanical name: Cymbopogen citratus

Used extensively in Asian cooking, we love the intensely sweet, lemony and herbaceous aroma from Lemongrass. Used for clearing headaches and combatting stress or nervous related exhaustion. This essential oil is produced through steam distillation of the chopped grass.

•EUCALYPTUS

Botanical name: Eucalyptus smithii

Very well known for it’s respiratory properties, Eucalyptus works successfully in clearing the air and your breathing; treating colds very well. It’s calming and minty aroma is incredibly soothing, thus encouraging healing. 

There are many different types of Eucalyptus oil but our first choice is the oil distilled from the leaves of the “gully gum tree”.

•ROSEMARY

Botanical name: Rosmarinus officinali

Steam distilled from the flowers and leaves of the herb, this pleasant aroma is strong, fresh, herbaceous and camphor. Known as a culinary herb, rosemary can also perk you up by relieving pains, sharpening concentration and stimulating the brain. For a long time it has been used in medicine to treat the nervous system, depression and headaches. 

•VERBENA

Botanical name: Aloysia triphylla

Detoxifying and stimulating, this oil can help to lift spirits, treating depression, insomnia and easing anxiety. It’s antioxidant properties make it fantastic for soothing too, whether that be muscle pain or inflammation on the skin. 

Verbena is steam distilled from the freshly harvested herb.

•GRAPEFRUIT

Botanical name: Citrus x paradisi

Just like the fruit itself, grapefruit essential oil is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C which together can: boost the immune system, prevent infections, detoxify, stimulate hormones and relieve depression. 

The extraction of the oil comes straight from the peel, ensuring it is pure and fruity, just like it’s aroma. 

•BERGAMOT

Botanical name: Citrus bergamia

Cold pressed from the peel, this essential oil is sweet, rich, green and fruity. The aroma is incredibly popular for its' relaxing and uplifting properties, which create a refreshing atmosphere. 

Its' therapeutic properties can help reduce anxiety and depression, increasing a positive mood. As well as having similar antiseptic properties to Grapefruit.

•LEMON

Botanical name: Citrus limonum

We love this essential oil for it’s sparkling clean notes, which add a fresh lift to any aromatherapy blend. The extraction from the ripe peel provides anti- inflammatory properties, mental clarity, stress relief and mood boost. It’s also known for relieving headaches and improving concentration.
